Celebrating a touchdown red neck style

Last year at Joe T High School we had a young man who would run with the school flag whenever a touchdown was made. Well this year another young man decided that running was for the birds, and the best way to show school spirit was with a red neck, jacked up go cart. It brings the crowd to their feet every time it runs down the track.

Update on Accidents

609
Will not be totaled in fact the repairs came in at @ 21,000 so we will be getting it back. They are in the process of repairing it now. Speaking of "09" read what happened on Tabors shift

509
’s Unit Radio’s Emergency signal went off around 0100 this morning. 609 is in Alabama for work, so we weren’t sure what the heck was going on. Dispatch did a role call of all metro trucks, all crews reported no trouble……hmmmmm, is the ghost of 09 awaiting it’s truck………………

(truth is 09's radio is in 422 and somebody hit the emergency button while it was in the shop, but it did make for an interesting evening)

402
A little different matter, the box will cost @27,000 to fix and that does not count the chassis damage, which looks like a total. This one will take a bit longer to get a final bill due to it having to have the box taken off before the estimate can be completed. Regardless of the ability to repair the chassis, it will come back on a new chassis. This one is still a long time out before it will be finished.

Remember, Be careful out there!!

Upcoming Company Meetings etc..

As you may remember the Board Retreat took place this past Tuesday. Several important decisions were made over the past few weeks. We would like the opportunity to share those with you. We are setting company meetings for the week of October 15th. Jon and I have to firm up the dates, as soon as we do I will publish them. MEMS may be in for some changes, but I believe in the end it will make us a much better company.

New Hires
We have already posted the following:
  • 7 from the in-house Paramedic School have passed their test and are now Paramedics!
  • We have 12 starting Rookie School September 10th
  • 2 PRN Paramedics are coming back full time
  • If reference checks turn out OK, we have hired 1 Paramedic , and 2 EMTs (who are in Paramedic school) from out side
In addition to the above we have a new hire class that will be starting next week, that includes 2 van drivers and one for communications. I do not have the final number in front of me, but September was very good to us in the area of hiring.

Larry passes away

Larry the garden cat died near MEMS. The Democrat Gazette talked a little more about him being found here, the THV tells the story a bit differently. He was found near the shop by Kevin. We will miss him, rest in peace Larry....

Expired

A lady always used to say that when she died she wanted a parking meter on her grave that says "Expired". So her nephew got her one on ebay! Her grave is right by the road so everyone can see it and many people have stopped to get a chuckle.

'Dead' Man Wakes Up Under Autopsy Knife

Think these EMS guys were having a bad day????

Carlos Camejo, a Venezuelan man who had been declared dead but woke up in the morgue in excruciating pain after medical examiners began their autopsy, poses for the camera in La Victoria September 17, 2007. Camejo, 33, was declared dead after a highway accident and taken to the morgue, where examiners began an autopsy only to realize something was amiss when he started bleeding. They quickly sought to stitch up the incision on his face. (Reuters)

Story

Baby's 911

Just an update on the Baby's 911 (MEMS and BMC NICU). We have moved two baby's since the posting Friday. On each move the feedback has been very positive from the NICU as well as MEMS staff. The only new issue to surface is that their cot needs some maintenance, we have agreed to help them with this. Thank you for doing your part to make this relationship better!

Gator Trailer Stolen !

On Sunday night the white trailer that we use to move the Gator was stolen from MEMS at 23:03. The picture is not as clear as we would like, we have since taken steps to get better outdoor cameras. If you have any ideas please let me know. (You may have to pause the video as you see the truck)

422 new light system

422 is here, in fact it has been here for a number of days, getting ready for the streets. There is one change with this new unit, it has LED lights rather than the standard strobes like the rest of the units. It cost a little more to make the move to the new system, but some of the cost were saved by not painting the inside of the out side compartments. We also believe it will cost a lot less in future in maintenance, parts etc... Studies show that these lights are brighter (safer) , use less energy which means we are saving on alternators. We hope to have it on the streets by weeks end.
